Seattle—Paradigm Communications Group, publisher of Alaska Beyond Magazine, the inflight magazine of Alaska Airlines, has received a first-place “Big M” award, two second-place “Silver M” awards and two third-place “Bronze M” awards in The Marketing Awards competition for Puget Sound–area media.
The first-place “Big M” award recognizes the magazine’s feature story Aloha Spirit: Alaska Airlines Celebrates 10 Years of Serving Hawai‘i, published in the October 2017 issue, for informing and engaging readers, and creating excitement around Alaska’s decade of service to Hawai‘i. The “Silver M” awards were presented for the Destination: Seattle special editorial section in May 2017, and for the cover story Russell Wilson: Chasing Dreams—Motivating a New Generation in September 2017. The two “Bronze M” awards were presented for the California Travel Planner special editorial section in March 2017, and for the magazine cover celebrating the indie-folk band The Head and the Heart in June 2017.
The annual awards competition, conducted by locally based Marketing Northwest, honors excellence in the fields of print publishing, advertising, broadcasting, creative arts, direct marketing and public relations.
Marketing Northwest has previously named Mimi Kirsch, president and publisher of Paradigm Communications Group, as a Marketing Immortal. The honor acknowledges communications and marketing professionals who have demonstrated leadership in their industries and in the communities in which they live and volunteer.

SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS AWARDS
Seattle — Alaska Beyond Magazine, the inflight magazine of Alaska Airlines, received two first-place awards at this year’s Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism competition. The awards were presented to Paradigm Communications Group, publisher of Alaska Beyond Magazine, at the society’s annual ceremony honoring excellence in journalism among magazine, newspaper, internet and broadcast media for work done in 2016.
Alaska Beyond Magazine won first place in Feature Photography for an image of a camel train on the Sahara Desert, taken by photographer Art Wolfe, and featured in the March 2016 story Gearing Up to Take Great Photos. The magazine also won first place in Portrait Photography for its September 2016 Photo Page of 4-H kids showing off their prize-winning poultry entries at the Alaska State Fair, by photographer Clark James Mishler.
